内容摘要：The ability of market on efficient resource allocation is greatly constrained by the existence of national as well as intranational borders. While previous research has mostly focused on the effects of national borders on bilateral trade and market integration, this paper examines how political borders within a country affect economic efficiency in the context of China. To measure allocative efficiency between regions, I extend the framework by Hsieh and Klenow (QJE, 2009) that studies the extent of resource misallocation. Based on city- and county-pair level datasets, I find strong negative effects of political borders on allocative efficiency. By exploiting one unique policy shock in China, I also find that the policy that strengthens inter-governmental coordination greatly reduces resource misallocation across regions.

主讲人简介：唐为，上海财经大学公共经济与管理学院讲师，2016年毕业于复旦大学经济学院。主要研究领域为公共经济学与中国城市发展。在Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics、Economics of Transition、Habitat International、《经济研究》、《经济学（季刊）》等国内外重要期刊上发表论文多篇。主持国家自然科学基金青年项目、教育部人文社科基金青年项目、博士后基金面上一等资助和特别资助项目，麦肯锡公司“城市中国”计划资助项目等。曾获得第一届洪银兴经济学奖、上海市第十届青年经济学者论坛“新秀奖”等奖励多项。
